AUSL is a national charter school operator started by Chicago venture capitalist Martin Koldyke. Besides Donoso, AUSL previously employed CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard.

But even the progress proclaimed is open for debate since it was minimal.

To make it right they have to stop these layoffs, they have to step back and they have to put these good teachers back in the schools, Potter said.

The Board of Ed needs to be responsible to understand these programs are not working, said Julie Woestehoff, executive director of Parents United for Responsible Education, reported the Chicago Tribune. In order to do something devastating to the community, the results need to be clear and compelling. And these results are not.

In addition to the battle around school reform, teachers and the board entered contract talks last month. The unions contract expires June 30.

The EEOC complaint comes at a time when the CPS and Mayor Rahm Emanuel are pushing through education policies that education historian Diane Ravitch callscorporate school reform. The city and board are enacting mass school closings andprivatizing themby bringing in well-connected charter school operators.

Also in the corporate-political cabal is the Chicago Board of Trade, whose president, David Vitale, is the head of the Chicago Board of Education. Vitale had been on the board of directors of AUSL.

Black teachers make up 29 percent of all CPS teachers, but were 43 percent of all those laid off last year, the union says. White teachers are 47 percent of the total but were 36 percent of the layoffs.

Hymowitz points out that for the last 40 plus years, this mantra of &8220;girl power&8221; has taken American culture by storm. The tempest started first in 1972 when Congress passed Title IX of the Education Amendments, thus mandating that no boy&8217;s sports teams could exist without equal representation of girl&8217;s sports. This raised sports to the forefront of the typical American home and made parents nudge their girls into sports they were before unlikely to play. Coaches were determined not to let their girls teams play like girls and marketers jumped on it to create the Supergirl.
